Show Me The Money!
This famous movie quote comes from the 1996 feature, "Jerry Maguire." Does it seem to fit with our focused prayer this week: Pray for financial support to overflow so the gospel is not hindered by a price tag?
How often do we make demands on God? How often do we tell Him our perspective and then reason with Him, trying to convince Him that we really know best?
Is that the purpose of asking everyone to join us in prayer? Is that why we are asking God to provide an overflow of financial support? Do mass numbers of people asking for the same thing move the hand of God? In essence, are we saying to God, 'Show me the money'?
Here is our perspective - Scripture tells us to "Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people" (Ephesians 6:18).
First, we are acting in obedience. We pray continually for God's work to be done here in Idaho Falls, in this country and across the globe. We pray specifically for the Vision 2020 event that accomplishes the purpose of the gospel.
Second, we stand in unity as we pray (Colossians 4:2; 2 Thessalonians 3:1). We work together, submitting our will and motives to the authority of our Father in Heaven.
Third, we recognize that we cannot accomplish this massive undertaking without the direct intervention of God. Therefore, our prayers for financial blessings on this ministry are an acknowledgement that this entire process belongs to God. We humbly submit to His sovereignty.
